Gazette should apologize to Savage

April 18, 2023

I am at a complete loss to understand the nasty and accusatory tone in the April 14 editorial regarding the Milton Town Council members and the shocking singling out of Councilman Savage.

When a mean-spirited letter from Eban Hopkins Brittingham was published in the March 7 paper, I chalked it up to a disgruntled individual and the paper's policy to adhere to principles of freedom of expression. But for the editorial board of the Gazette to go down a similar road is more than disappointing; it's shameful and beneath this paper's usual standard of respectful discourse.

Referring to "performance art" and using the phrase "for some reason" in a manner implying some dark motivation is not appropriate; in fact, it's inexcusable on the part of the editorial board. You might criticize the decision and ask for an explanation, but the manner and tone of the editorial were improper. Shame on you for this unprofessional attack on the members of the council.

They can be questioned without being attacked. You owe them, particularly Larry Savage, whom for some reason you singled out, an apology.
