The Gazette visits Santa Clara for a revolutionary history experience

May 19, 2017

While visiting Cuba in March, Mike Kelly and his siblings Sheila Ward, Pat Kelly and niece Shannon Kelly enjoyed reading the Cape Gazette in Santa Clara. According to Wikipedia, Santa Clara is the capital city of the Cuban province of Villa Clara. It is located in the most central region of the province and in the most central region of the country. With a population near a quarter million, Santa Clara is the 5th largest Cuban city by population.

“Here we are at Revolution Square, which features the mausoleums of Ernesto “Che” Guevara and twenty-nine of his fellow combatants killed in 1967 during Guevara’s attempt to spur an armed uprising in Bolivia,” said Mike. “This is one of the most important National Monuments in Cuba.”
