Georgetown girl thrives with Easterseals

March 27, 2021

“It is not her disability. It is her super power,” said Mandie Fletcher of Georgetown. Her daughter Everleigh was born with a leg length difference.

Everleigh is amazing, but even super heroes need help sometimes, and that’s why Mandie was so happy to have Easterseals Children’s Therapy program right from the start.

“Everleigh amazes me every day. Nothing slows her down. Nothing is going to stop her,” Mandie said. “I could never say enough about her physical therapist, Megan. I don’t know what I would do without her or Easterseals in general. They have taught her to do everything in her own little way. I don’t know what I would have done if we didn’t have them for support.”

While the diagnosis may have been surprising at first, Mandie and her family soon realized that a disability does not define a person. Along with physical therapy, Everleigh started receiving speech and feeding therapies when she was 2 months old to help her transition from a feeding tube. She still receives physical therapy to help her adjust to a foot-in-foot orthopedic – a leg extender that corrects the leg difference and will soon help her walk independently.

“Everleigh is doing great now. She is starting to take steps unassisted with her orthotic,” Mandie said. “I would tell other parents to never give up and always ask questions. Give your child more credit than you think. Everleigh can do anything her brothers can. She is a rock star!”
