Georgetown police investigate separate shooting incidents

December 8, 2021

The Georgetown police are investigating two separate shootings incidents that happened Dec. 7 and 8 in Georgetown.

The first happened at 8:41 p.m. Dec. 1 when police received a call about shots fired near East Laurel and North Race streets, said Ralph Holm, interim police chief. When police arrived, Holm said, they found a man with a gunshot wound. Police learned that the incident happened when one man walked up to another man seated in a parked car and shot at him. The man in the car was not injured, but several people chased the shooter who shot at the pursuers, injuring one man, Holm said. The suspect got into a maroon pickup truck with a crew cab and an after-market LED brake light under the tailgate. Holm said the truck may have Maryland registration. The suspect drove away, last seen heading northbound on North Bedford Street, Holm said.

The injured man was taken to the hospital where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

The second shooting happened at 9:08 a.m. Dec. 8 when two people were fighting near the Verizon Store on College Park Drive. During the fight, Holm said, one person fired a single-shot at another before both left the area. There were no reports of injuries, he said.

The shooter left the area in a black sedan, possibly a Honda, unknown registration. Holm said the investigation is ongoing, and there is no reason to believe the incidents are related.
