Georgetown wages war on trash

CommUNITY comes together for cleanup
July 1, 2021

More than 100 volunteers from the Georgetown community came together June 26 to join forces on a town-wide cleanup of trash and have a day of unity for the citizens of the diverse neighborhoods in the Sussex County seat.

The theme for the event was Unity, and it brought together members of Georgetown’s diverse Black, Latino, Asian and white communities for an effort that will benefit all. The day’s activities helped mingle people from different cultures to share their experiences and build community pride.

“This was a great idea,” said Rep. Ruth Briggs King, R-Georgetown. “It benefits the whole town by bringing together all of the diverse communities.”

A quick rainstorm helped the volunteers share stories while they sheltered in tents.

I’m super happy with the turnout,” said Georgetown Town Manager Gene Dvornick. “It was certainly a shining day in and for Georgetown.”
