Geraldine M. Barley, had many talents

April 17, 2022

Geraldine “Gere” M. Barley, 87, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at her home. She was born March 26, 1935, in Lancaster County, Pa., the daughter of the late Robert B. and Blanche S. Myers.

She was a graduate of Hempfield High School, Class of 1954, and married the love of her life, James R. Barley, April 17, 1955.

Mrs. Barley had many interests and talents throughout her life. She was an excellent cook and baker, enjoyed crafts, quilting, ceramics, getting her exercise, and loved growing flowers. She and her husband James loved spending winters in Florida. Her faith was a pillar in her life; she was a devoted member of the Hempfield United Methodist Church of Lancaster, Pa., and more recently, Epworth United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the church’s gospel choir. She also volunteered at New Life Thrift Shop in Lewes. Above all else, she treasured the times spent with friends and family. She was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dudley Myers. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, James R. Barley of Rehoboth Beach; her daughters, Lisa Gerlach (Raymond) of Lititz, Pa., and Carmon Strayer (Phil) of Florida; her sons, James S. Barley of Montana and Gregg Barley (Rachael Packer) of Lancaster, Pa.; her grandchildren, Kyle Gerlach and Clark Barley of Lancaster; and her great-grandchildren, Holden and Noelle of Lancaster.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

A Celebration of her Life is being planned and details will be announced at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Mrs. Barley’s name to Seasons Hospice Foundation, 6400 Schafer Court, Ste. 700, Rosemont, IL 60018, foundation@seasonshospice.org.
