Get moving - Del Tech offers fall fitness classes

Delaware Technical & Community College in Georgetown offers a variety of personal enrichment and fitness classes. From line dancing to Pilates, there is something for everyone. Anyone can try a fitness class drop-in. For more information, or to register, call 302-855-1617.

Golfers can get complete instruction with Golf at Midway Par 3. Basic methods of golf swing and hitting are stressed, and rules and etiquette are included. This class is offered from 5 to 6 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 10 to 26 at Midway Par 3 Golf Course in Lewes.

For those who aspire to learn horseback riding, lessons are offered for beginners age 15 and older from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays, Oct. 19 to Nov. 9  at Singletree Stables in Seaford. Learn basics of safety, stable management and equestrian skills. Horse and tack equipment is furnished. Students are required to wear pants and shoes with at least a half-inch heel.

Beginner Line Dancing will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursdays, Oct. 6 to Nov. 10 at the college. Enjoy great music, fun, and good people. Plus it’s exercise! Wear comfortable shoes.

Call the Delaware Tech Fitness Center to set up an orientation for a fitness center membership at 302-855-5954. Exercisers set up the day and time to work out, and the gym provides the latest cable machines, free weights and cardio equipment. Parents must sign a release form for youth ages 12-17. Available hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays.  Register for a 16-week program and pick up ID in the CCP Office, Room 109 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For those interested in a more hands-on approach, there is personal training available. The first session records medical history and goals, as well as resting heart rate, blood pressure, flexibility, strength and cardio assessment. The second session will be a demonstration of strength and flexibility exercises, explanation of cardio workout, and a discussion of general nutrition and weight management. Pilates, Yoga and Zumba are offered for those looking to define their bodies as well as their brains. Pilates helps to reduce stress and build core strength, improve muscle tone, balance and posture and flexibility in an impact-free workout. Yoga is a great exercise that combines the use of mind, body and spirit. Zumba, the newest cardio craze, fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms for a dance and exercise with easy-to-follow moves.

Pilates (bring exercise mat and Pilates band) is offered from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays, Oct. 5 to Nov. 9.  Yoga (bring mat and yoga strap) is offered from 6 to 7 p.m., Mondays, Oct. 3 to Nov. 7.  Zumba is offered from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursdays, Oct. 27 to Dec. 8.
