Ahmed Zidan said the name of his new restaurant in Dewey is simple and gets the point across immediately.
Muncheez lets customers know exactly what kind of food they’ll be getting here, Zidan said. The spelling, he said, is just a play on words that he thought the young crowd in Dewey would like.
Open now for about a month, Muncheez is located in Ocean Winds development on the southwest corner of Coastal Highway and New Orleans Street in the former My Thai spot.
Zidan said among the things Muncheez offers are fried seafood, cheesesteaks, salads, gyros, fountain sodas, fruit smoothies and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Other menu items include a blooming onion, cheesy bacon fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken and beef empanadas, and a variety of wraps.
Zidan said he and his business partner, Sherif Hassan, are students working to get their pharmaceutical degrees. He said they have about two years of schooling remaining and then training, so they decided to open up shop to help fund their educations.
“Nobody in town is serving what we’ve got, so we thought there was an opportunity,” he said. “Dewey is a fun place.”
Zidan said the menu items that are really setting them apart from the other restaurants in town are the assortment of fried desserts, which include fried oreos, fried dough, fried bananas, fried ice cream, fried twinkies, fried snickers and fried cheesecake.
“Everybody has liked the food so far,” he said. “We’ve been really well received.”
Muncheez, 1905 Coastal Highway, is open noon to 2 a.m., seven days a week. For more information call 302-226-1143.
