Giant Speedway Supermarket comes to Dover Downs for race weekend

Giant Food of Landover, Md., will again build a Speedway Supermarket at Dover International Speedway in Dover for NASCAR weekend. Back for the third time, the Speedway Supermarket will feature more than 2,500 items and offer NASCAR fans easy access for tailgate shopping during the Sept. 30-Oct. 2 race weekend. The pop-up store, located in RV Lot 10, will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., beginning Wednesday, Sept. 28.

“We are excited to bring Giant’s Speedway Supermarket back to the Monster Mile during race weekend,” said Jamie Miller, public and community relations manager for Giant Food. “We’re looking forward to holding events at our Delaware stores leading up to race weekend and are very excited to host fun activities at our Speedway Supermarket, too.”

The Speedway Supermarket will feature a large variety of items including hot dogs, hamburgers, coleslaw, potato salad, buns, chips, cookies, and refreshing drinks; perishables including meat, deli, produce, seafood and bakery items; prepared foods; health and beauty care products including sunscreen, toothpaste, and more.

Providing our race fans with the Giant brand and legendary customer service only helps enhance and add to the convenience of a race weekend experience.”

In celebration of Giant Food’s 75th anniversary, the first 75 people to shop at the Speedway Supermarket each day will receive a free reusable shopping bag. In addition, Giant will host several events at Delaware Giant locations as well as at the Speedway Supermarket. Events include:

• Bobby Labonte appearance: NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte and the Bush’s Best No. 47 Show Car will be at the Rehoboth Giant from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30; four lucky shoppers will receive a pair of NASCAR tickets

• Speedway Supermarket Movie Night: After Friday night’s race Sept. 30, Giant Food will host Movie at the Monster Mile beginning at 8 p.m. and show “Days of Thunder.”

• Clint Bowyer appearance: NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer will be at the Speedway Supermarket from 10:30 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, to meet shoppers; the Cheerios No. 33 Show Car will be on display from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Bobby Labonte appearance: NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte will sign autographs, answer questions, and give away two pairs of tickets at the Speedway Supermarket from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 2

• Clint Bowyer Show Car on display: The No. 33 Cheerios Show Car will be outside the Speedway Supermarket from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 2

• Food Bank of Delaware check presentation: Giant Food and JTG Daugherty Racing will present the Food Bank of Delaware with $5,000 to help alleviate hunger in the community; Stacy Wiggins, Giant Food district director and 2000 Champion Bobby Labonte will present the check to Larry Haas and Ed Matarese of the Food Bank of Delaware before Sunday’s big race.
