Girl, 13, dies in Hollyville Road crash

January 17, 2022

A 13-year-old Frankford girl died Jan. 17 in a two-vehicle crash on Hollyville Road south of Harmony Cemetery Road.

The crash happened at 1:11 p.m. when a 2006 Jeep Liberty operated by a 17-year-old Frankford girl was traveling northbound on Hollyville Road, approaching the intersection at Harmony Cemetery Road.  At the same time, a 2016 Freightliner flatbed truck was traveling southbound on Hollyville Road when for unknown reasons, the operator of the Jeep lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the southbound lane, and began rotating counterclockwise, exposing the passenger side, said Sr. Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police. The operator of the Freightliner, a 26-year-old man of Salisbury, Md., applied the brakes in an attempt to avoid a collision, Hatchell said, but the front right of the truck struck the passenger side of the Jeep. After impact, the Jeep was forced off the west side of the roadway, and came to a rest. The Freightliner was redirected off the west side of the roadway and struck a tree with its front right before coming to rest south of the impact, Hatchell said.

The 17-year-old girl was transported to Beebe Healthcare and treated for minor injuries. Josephine Fleming-Lloyd, 13, of Frankford, was in the front seat of the Jeep  and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The roadway was closed for about 3.5 hours while the investigation was completed and the roadway was cleared.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information regarding the crash should contact Master Corporal Argo of the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit by calling 302-703-3264; Delaware crime stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or  at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
