Granary developer earns award for conservation stewardship

February 14, 2026

Convergence Communities, developer of The Granary, a 451-acre planned community in Milton, has earned the Sussex Conservation District’s 2026 Conservation Stewardship Award in the Developer category.

The eight award categories recognize outstanding individuals, businesses and organizations that go above and beyond in protecting and enhancing Sussex County’s natural resources.

Judges noted Convergence’s proactive approach to environmental management and conservation in the planning and development of The Granary, which is expected to include 1,350 residences and 60,000 square feet of commercial space upon full build-out.

Careful and intentional steps were taken to preserve 110 acres of open space on the site, where Draper Farm previously operated for generations. Extra care was taken to design and install stormwater ponds throughout the community that receive runoff and minimize sediment impacts to adjacent waterways, including Diamond Pond.

Walking paths, gardens and water features are planned to weave seamlessly throughout the community, making the natural environment its most prominent and valued amenity.

During the community’s design and construction phase, Convergence worked with the E&S contractor Corrado Management Company to ensure that environmentally sensitive areas near waterways on The Granary’s site were properly protected. This included the installation of stormwater ponds throughout the community that receive runoff and minimize sediment impacts to adjacent waterways, creating a stormwater system capable of protecting water quality and providing lasting environmental benefits. By prioritizing environmental protection while advancing construction, Convergence has successfully balanced development goals with conservation responsibilities.
