A friend who was a legend in the diplomatic service and in D.C. upper echelons once gave me advice as I entered public service: “Don’t ever expect anybody to be grateful.”
His wise and not cynical cautionary, I think, was to recognize that the challenge of working for the public good is that public good involves cosmically diffused reporting functions.
I am writing to say how grateful I am that sincere, smart and honest people like Susan Gay put up with an unimaginable amount of work to represent us. What keeps the world (with in this case Rehoboth Beach as its nexus) spinning on measure are people such as Susan who put up with deep measures of frustrations to keep things moving and in the proper direction.
I am grateful, Susan.
