October 30, 2025

Harlow M. Carson, 94, passed peacefully at his home Monday, Oct. 27, 2025.

He was born in Boston, Mass., April 30, 1931, son of Harlow and Jane Carson. When he was 12, the family moved to Philadelphia, Pa., where he graduated from Cheltenham High School. After graduation he began a career with the Proctor and Schwartz textile manufacturing company. Soon he met Jean Higgins, a nursing student at the Jersey shore, and they married Jan. 19, 1952. Their honeymoon took them to New York City, where they were fortunate to see Perry Como perform.

They began their home together at 6333 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, Pa., where their son Steven was born Oct. 20, 1952. In 1959, they moved to Waterford, N.Y., where their son David was born Feb. 10, 1960. Harlow then changed careers and worked as a sales representative for Prudential Insurance Company.

After retiring, Jean and Harlow moved to Lewes in 1986. They were active members of Bethel United Methodist Church, where Harlow served as a past board member and treasurer as well as a member of Bethel Methodist Cemetery board. He also had served as treasurer of Lewes Senior Center, a registered ombudsman with the State of Delaware; past treasurer and president of Sweetbriar Homeowners Association; volunteer at Southern Delaware Hospice, where he had served with the Camp New Hope program, a specialty program to help children who have suffered the loss of someone very close to them. Also, he especially enjoyed helping AIDS patients and people recovering from addiction as well as others who needed transportation to doctor and hospital appointments. At times he was able to offer support to others during times of immense grief.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing, traveling, and visiting with his children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jean, June 20, 2020, and his son, Steve, Sept. 4, 2022. He is survived by his son, David, his wife Chona, and their two children Justin and Alyssa of St. Louis, Mo.; his brother, Bruce of Maryland; and nephew, Clark of Lewes. Clark provided a wonderful level of care for Harlow during his time in Delaware Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 2 p.m.
