February 27, 2023

The Lewes Public Library invites adults 55 and older for a workshop titled Conquering Health Information Online, at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 7 at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. The session will be offered again at 10 a.m., Friday, April 14.

The hands-on program will empower participants with skills and confidence to find trustworthy health information online. Workshop leader Dana Ravyn, PhD, MPH, CHIS, will present strategies for finding reliable facts, identifying unbiased sources and avoiding scams when researching health topics online such as treatments, diagnoses, medications and tests.

“The internet is an overwhelming place, especially when trying to navigate thousands of articles and websites filled with health information. It is hard to know what to trust,” said Ravyn. “This workshop will teach older adults simple steps for identifying and searching reliable sources so they can feel confident researching health questions online.”

Registration is required, and basic computer skills are recommended. To register, go to lewes.lib.de.us or call 302-645-2733.

Ravyn is a certified consumer health information specialist with more than 20 years of experience as a medical writer and physician educator. She also provides one-on-one health information consultations at the library.

CHIS certification is granted by the Medical Library Association and reflects a dedication to offering quality health information services, and staying current with developments in consumer health information resources, technologies and services.
