Heidi Lowe Gallery to host opening reception July 13

July 12, 2018

Heidi Lowe Gallery has announced (un)natural, an exhibition of contemporary studio jewelry handmade by Jina Seo and Lindsay Locatelli. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 13. The new jewelry pieces will be on display through Friday, Aug. 17.

Both artists emphasize form, color and texture, and consider how the body interacts with these design elements when their jewelry is worn. "Each artist references the body and utilizes materials and color in unique ways," said Lowe. "I am excited to bring the work of these artists together to see the juxtapositions it will create."

Seo, originally from South Korea, incorporates deconstructed vintage leather gloves in her work, which provide the opportunity for familiar tactile interaction. "When the body is absent, the empty, internal structure retains evidence of human existence and remains full of authentic spirit and fantasy," Seo said.

During an artistic hiatus, Locatelli traveled throughout New Mexico, where she drew inspiration from the bold landscape and its surrounding bright colors. Wearing Locatelli's jewelry activates a tactile experience and animates the artist's inspiration. "My jewelry largely becomes mobile bodies of wearable art, inviting the viewer to interact as the user and observer," she said.

Also on view at the Gallery is Earrings Galore, an annual showcase of earrings that remains on display throughout the year. This year's Earrings Galore show features more than 40 artists from across the country and abroad. Earrings range in size, shape, material and concept, from traditional to avant-garde.

Heidi Lowe Gallery offers silver ring-making classes from 6 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday night this summer. Jewelry-making classes on summer nights are a fun way to be creative in a stress-free environment. The cost for class and materials is $100 per person, and class size is limited to six people.

Located at 328 Rehoboth Ave., Heidi Lowe Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday to Saturday. For more information and to register for a ring-making class, go to heidilowejewelry.com.
