Helen Jane Townsend Nichols, retired cook

Helen Jane Townsend Nichols, 98, of Salisbury, Md., formerly of Millville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, at her home.

She was born in Millville June 1, 1920, daughter of the late Carl Morgan and the late Leona (Gray) Morgan.  Helen had worked in a variety of capacities with her last job being at Teens Restaurant in Millville as a cook.  She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and completing word searches.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elisha William Townsend; her second husband, James Nichols; a son, Phillip E. “Pee Wee” Townsend; and a granddaughter, Holly Rae Townsend.  She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Townsend Smullen and her husband Tom of Salisbury; four grandchildren, William “Bill” Townsend and his wife Maria of Frankford, Donna Rae Frietz and her husband Archie of Dagsboro, Gregory Alan Lynch of Laurel and Tommy Smullen Jr. of Laurel; a brother, David Morgan of Millsboro; a sister, Katherine Atkins of Millsboro; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., where friends and family may call after noon.  Interment will follow at St. George’s Cemetery in Clarksville.
