Higher Power Yoga and Fitness in Dover transforms clients’ health

October 9, 2018

Higher Power Yoga and Fitness in Dover is transforming the health and well-being of its clients through aerial yoga, an exciting version of an ancient practice that involves hanging from a silk hammock attached to the ceiling, which releases the pressure that comes with traditional yoga. From experienced yogis to beginners, an array of clientele can be found throughout the studio daily. Certain people are turning out in droves since word of mouth spread that aerial yoga can help relieve pain caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis and other ailments.

“It’s changed my life,” said Sarah Jones, 53, of Ellendale. “I haven’t felt this good since I was a teenager! When it comes to doing the laundry, cleaning, and gardening, there’s no more pain in my knees or joints. It’s incredible, and it’s all thanks to Higher Power Yoga.” Aerial yoga has become a weekly routine for Jones, who makes multiple trips to the studio each week. “It’s all worth it,” she said. “You find yourself having so much fun, and you start to see the progress immediately.”

Janet McDaniel, 56, of Camden, says her debilitating knee and back pain has become a thing of the past since she discovered Higher Power: “After beginning yoga, aerial restorative yoga, and barre classes, my knee and back pain is almost completely gone, and I have more flexibility and stamina. The classes are fun and not a run-of-the-mill exercise class,” McDaniel said. “It improved my quality of life.”

Kelcie Mahr, instructor and owner of Higher Power Yoga and Fitness, said she decided to open her own studio because of her passion for yoga and how it truly changes the lives of those who practice it. “I encourage my students to relax, take a deep breath, have fun, laugh, and approach yoga with a light heart,” said Mahr. “Since I was a young child, I always had a fondness for yoga. As I grew older, that fondness flourished into a passion.”

In addition to aerial yoga, traditional yoga classes are also offered along with barre fitness, buti yoga, power yoga, and even a children's story-themed yoga and ‘tween programs.
