Highmark grants $109K to Ronald McDonald House

March 29, 2021

The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware recently received a grant award from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware BluePrints for the Community.

The $109,000 grant supports two key initiatives: implementation of a new guest management system and installation of new luxury vinyl plank flooring in 24 guest rooms.

Thanks to this grant, in 2020, the guest services team was able to convert the Ronald McDonald House to using the Family Registry guest management system. The new system has enabled guest services staff to support families more efficiently.

“Family Registry has been an amazing addition. It has enabled the staff to support our families in easier ways. The system is user-friendly and allows us to be responsive in real time. The system has far exceeded our expectations and streamlined the management of our guest services office,” said Monica Villicaña, guest services coordinator.

Ronald McDonald House has also upgraded flooring in 24 guest rooms. The floors were converted from traditional carpet tiles to luxury vinyl plank wood-look flooring. The upgrade allows for easier cleaning and sanitizing, and makes the room feel more like home for guest families. One guest said she likes the nicer room and is happy that it will be so much easier for her to keep her room clean during her stay.

“Ronald McDonald House has consistently maintained a safe and healthy environment for families. We are happy to support them as they continue to improve their ability to create a home for those away from home, and as they help alleviate some of the challenges that come with caring for a vulnerable child,” said Nick Moriello, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware president.
