Physical education teacher William Funkhouser said students have been learning to play the sport in gym class. The tournament paired Sussex Consortium and HOB students so all have the opportunity to compete and participate, Funkhouser said.
After players listened to the national anthem and third-grader Bonita Johnson led participants in the Special Olympics pledge, Funkhouser announced, “Let the games begin!” as students went to their areas to pitch their pallinos on the school playground.
