HOB fourth-graders take part in reading marathon

December 7, 2022

H.O. Brittingham Elementary fourth-graders held a reading marathon and celebrated reaching their reading goals by running through a finish line.

This year's celebration was led by HOB fifth-graders. The student presenters shared the importance of reading consistently so the current fourth-graders can aim to be successful in fifth grade next year. The marathon begins at the start of each semester, and students who meet their at-home reading goal of 2.5 hours per week earn a medal.

Over the last few years, the Rehoboth Beach Running Company has partnered with HOB educators to donate medals and commemorative shirts, and conducted the finish line run for students to celebrate the completion of their reading marathon.

With almost 75% of the fourth-graders meeting their at-home reading goal, this year’s event has been the most successful to date.
