H.O.B Girls on the Run ready to race

May 18, 2017

H.O. Brittingham Elementary's Girls on the Run ran a practice 5K May 8 in preparation for the 5K they will run at Silver Lake Park in Dover Sunday, May 21. Girls on the Run is a national program which inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using an experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. This is the fifth year for H.O. Brittingham's Girls on the Run program.

There was a lot to celebrate at the practice, especially the generous donation given to H.O. Brittingham's Girls on the Run by Waste Industries as part of its Full Circle Project. This $2,000 donation paid for scholarships which made it possible for 30 girls in third to fifth grades to be a part of this rewarding program. Families and teachers cheered the girls on while special guests Kim Chitty and Carrie Townsend of Girls on the Run Delaware helped with lap counters. Bryan Kastor of Waste Industries passed out healthy snacks prior to presenting GOTR with an oversized check.

Girls on the Run coach Susan Potter said, "We thank Waste Industries for their generous donation that makes GOTR possible at HOB. Our girls gain more than just the benefits of exercise from this awesome program. We can't wait to end the season at the GOTR 5K in Dover May 21.”
