Hockey4Haxton tournament a big success

December 30, 2022

Thank you to all who worked to make a successful day in memory of Amanda Haxton at the annual Hockey4Haxton tournament raising funds for the H4H scholarships and for the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown Dec. 17 on the turf at Cape Henlopen High School’s Champions Stadium. Thank you to all the 10 teams and about 130 individuals that expended their energy playing in the games. A special thank you to our volunteer umpires who gave their time to ensure the games were played safely: Peyton Moore, Sam Swift, Mycah Smith, Beth Conaway, Jessica Rybicki, Stacie Spicer, Madi Irwin, Jacki Dmiterchik and Ike Eisenhour. And thanks to the volunteers who manned registration (Stephanie Brown), the score clock (Megan and Dan Smith), music mixer and announcer/timer (Tim Moore) and photographers (Dan Smith and Eric Gooch), and all the others who donated their time for the success of this day. Apologies to any I have missed in the above list.

Special thanks to our sponsors: Arena’s Café and Deli in Lewes/Rehoboth Beach, Dorman’s Get Inked Custom Apparel in Milton, Russ Palmer Builders in Lewes, County Bank in Rehoboth Beach, Johnson Orthodontics in Rehoboth Beach, John’s Well Drilling in Smyrna, Morris James LLP in Georgetown, Hazzard Auto Parts in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beach Book in Milton, Clean Delaware in Milton, and George & Lynch Inc. in Dover. Thanks to all those who made anonymous donations throughout the day.
Special recognition goes to Stephanie Brown, chair of H4H, who did a great job planning this 17th annual event. Stephanie also was instrumental in the huge number of raffle items available for this year: Dairy Queen on Lewes Beach, Jungle Jim’s Water Park/Speedway outside Rehoboth Beach, Vernon Powell Shoes in Rehoboth Beach, Eric Gooch Photos of Milton, Arena’s in Rehoboth Beach, the Delaware River and Bay Authority, Thrasher’s French Fries in Rehoboth Beach, Olive and Oats by Azafran in Lewes, SoDel Concepts and Surf Bagel in Lewes and Nicola Pizza in Lewes.

Thank you to Cape Henlopen School District, Cheyanne Riveria and April Sharp for getting the Champions Field turf up and running days before the tournament was to take place.

You all are so special and have the Haxton spirit.

Congratulations to the Class of 2023 H4H scholarship winners: Eve Sekscinski of Milford High School and Elise Westbrook of Sussex Academy. Eve will be attending Coker University, where she will be part of their field hockey program while majoring in nursing. Elise will attend the University of Tampa, majoring in forensic science and playing club field hockey. These athletes have been active as members of teams traveling to Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida for different events, winning championships with those teams, teaching and coaching in different Delaware Shore programs and becoming big sisters to the next generation of Delaware Shore athletes.
