Home of the Brave unveils renovated facilities

Home of the Brave cut the ribbon on a new kitchen and dining space Oct. 2, just one of the renovation projects at the shelter for homeless veterans in Milford.
The shelter houses up to 15 men at any one time. The women’s facility houses up to five and their children.
Greg Fuller, the organization’s executive director, said the new dining facility is 225 square feet larger than the old space. He said it is open to both men and women guests, but the women’s shelter has its own dining area.
Elks Lodge 2401 in Milford donated the small appliances. Fuller said the new refrigerator, stove and dishwasher came at a discount from a business in Selbyville.
Milford-based Warfel Construction built the kitchen addition. Owner Brendon Warfel, who grew up in Milford, said he is always trying to help out.
“It’s awesome to help out the veterans and do our part. They served so we can have our freedom, own our businesses and have our life,” Warfel said.
Fuller said the new facility is part of $400,000 in upgrades, with most of the money coming from grants.
“We did things to try and make sure this place stays here to be able to help veterans that fall on hard times,” Fuller said.
The men’s day room was recently painted, and a new floor and security cameras were installed.
Fuller said they have also recently installed a new septic system.
He said there is still work to be done, including adding a gym.
Fuller said once all of the renovations are complete, he plans to give up the executive director role and become an advisor to the board of directors.
“Even though I’m stepping away, I’m going to have my pulse on this place. There are good people still going to be around and good employees to keep it moving,” Fuller said.
