Hospitality leadership program orientation set Aug. 12

Restaurant association partners with Goldey-Beacom College
July 25, 2025

The Delaware Restaurant Association, through its nonprofit arm, the Delaware Restaurant Foundation, recently announced the launch of its Hospitality Leadership Advancement Program, a dynamic new initiative in partnership with Goldey-Beacom College.

This workforce development opportunity is made possible by grant funding from the Delaware Workforce Development Board, and applications for the inaugural cohort are now open.

Designed to empower individuals currently working in Delaware’s hospitality industry, the program is especially focused on advancing women into leadership and management roles, though it welcomes all applicants ready to take the next step in their careers. This training program meets applicants where they are, offering blended, asynchronous learning for working adults, and wrap-around support services to eliminate barriers and support program success.

This program was developed in direct response to industry feedback from employers and human resource leaders who identified a significant gap in training for entry-level and mid-level managers. Many hospitality workers excel operationally but lack access to the financial and communication skills required for upper-level leadership roles. The four credit-bearing courses in the program — Desktop Applications (Excel), Personal Financial Management, Leadership & Organizational Behavior, and either Group Dynamics or Argumentation & Negotiation — are designed to build the essential skills needed to advance.

Participants will gain access to a wide range of program benefits and services, including a certificate from Goldey-Beacom College and 12 transferable college credits that are stackable toward degree programs; full access to Goldey-Beacom services, including career support and access to the college library, tutoring, wellness center and academic advising; wraparound support service stipends for transportation and childcare to reduce participation barriers; and academic advising, tutoring and career development support.

Program participants are invited, with complimentary access, to attend the annual Women of Hospitality Conference to be hosted by the Delaware Restaurant Association in November.

“We’re proud to launch this bold and inclusive program with Goldey-Beacom, one that directly responds to our industry’s need for more empowered leaders,” said Carrie Lieshman, DRA president and CEO. “This isn’t just training; it’s a true pathway to advancement made possible through innovative partnership and the support of the Workforce Development Board.”

“At Goldey-Beacom College, we are deeply committed to providing accessible, career-relevant education that meets learners where they are,” said Dr. Colleen Perry Keith, Goldey-Beacom College president. “This partnership with the Delaware Restaurant Association represents everything higher education should be — responsive, inclusive and impactful. We’re honored to support hospitality professionals in developing the leadership skills that will help them thrive and advance in their careers.”

The fall 2025 cohort will kick off with a virtual orientation Tuesday, Aug. 12. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 25. Space is limited, and employers are encouraged to share this opportunity with promising team members.
