In my opinion, the vast majority of people who oppose the rezoning of Atlantic Fields, myself included, are not opposed to having a large shopping center in Sussex County. Rather, it’s the location of such shopping center that’s at the heart of the matter. Simply put, the infrastructure is not in place, and wouldn’t be for years to come, to accommodate the proposed development site at Atlantic Fields. This lack of infrastructure would result in traffic gridlock as well as nearby school and residential safety issues. During a recent TV news broadcast, it was reported that in the event the large shopping center is voted down, the developer will build housing instead. That seems like a much better fit for Atlantic Fields.
