Humane Animal Partners seeking fosters for Texas flood dogs

July 12, 2025

Humane Animal Partners Rehoboth is set to receive 20 shelter dogs rescued from the recent floods in Texas. With their arrival, HAP is urgently calling for local foster families to help provide these pets with a safe short-term home.

The dogs were expected to arrive at the New Castle County Airport July 11. HAP’s Stanton location will initially take in the pets, and they will later be transferred to the Rehoboth shelter in Midway Plaza off of Route 1. All of the necessary travel was coordinated by the Bissell Pet Foundation.

The incoming furry friends were already up and ready for adoption prior to the horrific disaster and are being relocated to make space in the overwhelmed Texas shelters. This move will allow the Texas shelters to focus on caring for displaced pets and reuniting them with their families.

HAP Rehoboth is eagerly seeking foster families to provide temporary homes for the animals. The shelter offers all necessary supplies, including food, bedding, crates and vet care. Whether someone is an experienced foster or is completely new, their support can make a life-saving difference, HAP said.

Anyone interested in taking action and fostering is asked to fill out an online form at www.humaneanimalpartners.org/volunteer/become-a-foster/. HAP is also looking for monetary donations to fuel the various needs regarding the care for these pets.

This effort is part of a larger campaign involving Brandywine Valley SPCA, Humane Society of Harrisburg Area and Animal Adoption Center in New Jersey. A second flight, carrying additional shelter pets, was expected to arrive July 12. These furry friends will also receive care and will be made available for fostering/adoption at various different shelters.
