Humanists to host atheism talk with Rep. Eric Morrison Feb. 15

February 9, 2024

The Humanists of Southern Delaware will host an online meeting with Rep. Eric Morrison, D-Glasgow, on atheism in Delaware, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public. To request the link, email humanists@uussd.org or humanistsosd@gmail.com.

Morrison has been open about his atheism and its influence on his political career. He believes that his nonreligious worldview makes him a better legislator. He practices critical thinking without relying on a religious text or prayer to inform him regarding the right thing to do. Instead, he relies on reputable studies, statistics, professionals and listening to his constituents. He is possibly the first openly atheist individual to serve in the Delaware General Assembly. Morrison said he believes no one should be elected based simply on their religion or lack thereof. He has been outspoken both as an open atheist and an open member of the LGBTQ+ community.

After Morrison speaks, there will be a question-and-answer period and open discussion with participants.

Humanists of Southern Delaware is a chapter of the American Humanist Association. Its mission is to promote ethical living through personal development and collaborative experiences.
