Huxtable, Parker Selby have had lackluster terms

July 5, 2024

I am so grateful to Jane Gruenebaum and Joe Pika for their recent letter emphasizing the power of the vote as being an important tool against developers with deep pockets and big promises.

The only addendum I would make to the docket of elected officials they mentioned, which were the three incumbent members of Sussex County Council, are the current local state Sen. Russ Huxtable and state Rep. Stell Parker Selby.

Both have only been in office a short time and while talking a good game along with the occasional drop-in presence at meetings, they have no substantive examples to share as answers to the key questions posed by Gruenbaum and Pika. As has been shared countless times by disappointed constituents in the pages of this paper, Huxtable is best known for not returning phone calls or answering emails, and most people still think Steve Smyk, not Parker Selby, is the state representative for the Milton and Lewes area.

Both Huxtable and Parker Selby had lackluster terms in office, and as the recently released bond bill demonstrated, the major dollars needed for capacity and infrastructure here in the Cape Region are sadly going north once again to New Castle County.

It’s time we had true advocates for bipartisan change representing us locally, and it’s up to the voters to make that change at the polls this coming November for our area to truly get its fair share.
