Inaugural Women’s Forum a success for nonprofit organizers

October 19, 2025

Almost 150 women attended the Women’s Forum held Sept. 30, at the Cambria Hotel near Rehoboth Beach, sponsored by the nonprofit Fund for Women at the Delaware Community Foundation.

The idea began with Cheryl Mitchell, a member of the Fund for Women Sussex County Development Committee who wanted to offer various types of support and education for mature women that would be helpful at this stage in their lives. She agreed to lead a subcommittee with Vickie Burrier, Joan Millard, Sue Millard, Jvonne Oliver, Deb Quinton, Susan Rivers, Kelly Sheridan, Ginny Smith and Marge Worrell as members to develop the concept.

Sarah Gilmour, development committee chair, said, “These women came together over the course of six months and created an event that was educational and engaging for attendees. So many of the attendees asked if there was going to be another one next year, because they want to invite their friends. The answer is a resounding yes!”

Topics covered at the forum included Financial Health & Estate Planning, Mature Women’s Health Issues, Safety for Women: Protecting Yourself, Navigating a Health Crisis: Yourself or a Loved One, and Stress Management: Meditation & Movement.

Relevant organizations were on hand at the forum with representatives who could speak with attendees, offer information and answer questions.
