Seaside Jewish Community in Rehoboth Beach held Help from the Heart, a collection drive, during Peace Week Oct. 3-11, to benefit Code Purple Sussex County and the Epworth United Methodist Church food pantry.
Epworth UMC and the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware in Lewes also partnered with Seaside in collecting donations.
Almost 1,500 pounds of nonperishable food was donated to the pantry, and two carloads of personal care items were collected for the homeless shelters. More than $500 was donated by individuals to purchase gloves, hand warmers, blankets, pillows and other items for those who are homeless.
