Irving Albert Stedman Jr., financial planner

Irving Albert Stedman Jr. "Sonny," 72, of Lewes, formerly of Vienna, Va., passed away at home Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018.  He was born June 20, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Irving A. Stedman Sr. and Evelyn (Sutterley) Stedman.

Mr. Stedman graduated from West Chester State College in Pennsylvania with his bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He then honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where he served as a linguist and analyst for the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia, Cypress. Following his service he worked as a financial planner, specializing in executive life insurance. He worked for various agencies in Washington, D.C., where he enjoyed several years ranked as one of the top agents in the country.

Mr. Stedman was an avid genealogist, loving to research his family's history. He traveled extensively to study and explore his family’s lineage. He also loved the ocean and enjoyed countless sunsets over the Rehoboth Bay.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stedman was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Stedman. He is survived by his loving husband and best friend Bruce A. Savage of Lewes; two sisters: Doris Hood of Philadelphia, Pa., and Carole D'Annunzio and her husband Vincent of Malvern, Pa.; numerous nieces and nephews; countless beloved friends; and last but not least, his two loving cats, Mary Margaret Rose and Sebastian.

Services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Stedman's name to the Grass Roots Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 187, Camden, DE 19934.
