Is it really the end of August?!

August 28, 2020

The NFL season starts in two weeks. There will be no preseason games this year. Because of that, it will be quite difficult to predict which teams are going to be successful. But if the season goes on as scheduled, I think the Philadelphia Eagles could have a significant advantage in their division because the other three teams all have brand new head coaches. The Eagles and Cowboys are clearly the favorites to win the division, and both the Washington Football Team and the New York Giants are quite inexperienced. Let’s hope there actually is a full season.

In NBA news, the 76ers relieved Brett Brown of his duties as head coach after suffering a disappointing sweep at the hands of the Boston Celtics. The coaches always are the scapegoat when the team does not live up to expectations. I think Brown will get another opportunity somewhere else in the near future, but after seven years, maybe the team needed a new voice. Next year, I think something that will really help the team is if the new coach can make Joel Embiid get in and stay in shape for the whole season. Embiid needs to be able to play more of each game. He seemed to get tired way too fast in every game this season. It will probably be a while before we know who the new coach is going to be and probably won't know until the end of the season.

The Philadelphia Flyers have advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in eight years. They will be up against the New York Islanders who haven’t been good since the 1980s. The series is tied at 1-1 so far. More to come on this subject next week.

I’m also looking forward to watching some live tennis when the U.S. Open starts next Monday. This is the first major tennis tournament since the Australian Open way back in January! I’m so happy to see another sport beginning again. A big shout out to my buddy Jack who is a tennis fan extraordinaire. Go get ’em, Jack!!
