Jack Lingo lacrosse teams in the Men’s Open A, 30+ and 40+ divisions entered the Ocean City Lacrosse Classic Aug. 5-10, with a long legacy of winning.
When the play concluded Aug. 10 in Ocean City, Md., the 30+ team took the Men’s Masters Division championship with a 9-3 win over Dogfish Head Brewery. Lingo had defeated Bayview Homecare 8-3 in the semifinals, while Dogfish topped the HD Elite team 8-3 in the other semi.
“The 30+ guys are all so talented across the board,” said defenseman Matt Baran. “The competition is tough. We always know facing Dogfish is going to be a challenge. But this year, I think the entire defensive unit did such a good job with their individual matchups, forcing a lot of shots from the outside. The offense maintained possession, shot the ball very well, and built us up a good lead to hold onto.”
The 40+ squad won the 40+ Masters Division championship, defeating Tether Marketing 6-5 in the finals. They had defeated SmartLink 11-4 in the semifinal, while Tether Marketing won the semifinal with a 9-1 victory over the Touch of Grey team.
“When you get out on the field with the Lingo guys, it just feels right,” said Matt Hickman. “Some of us don’t see each other for a full year, but when we get on the field, it’s like we have been together all year practicing. Not many guys can say they have played with some of the same guys for 10, even 20 years. It’s a special group, and we look forward to it every year.”
The team competing in the Men’s Open A Division fell to Ryleigh’s Oyster in the semifinals. They posted a 4-2 record in the tournament.
