I have had the privilege of working with Calvin Jackson through several community organizations that focus on education and criminal justice reform. I am confident that he will be an effective addition to the Cape Henlopen school board. Mr. Jackson’s long, successful career as deputy associate director for communication and public liaison at the National Institutes of Health qualifies him as an asset for the Cape Henlopen school board.
During his 35 years with NIH, he worked to provide and develop mentoring and training programs for interns in the various branches of government. His success was noted in the career achievements of those he worked with and the many awards that he received during his career. It is also noted in the academic and career achievements of his three children who were raised in a family environment where education was a priority.
Mr. Jackson will bring an objective, more comprehensive perspective to a school board that must resolve those academic issues (curriculum, achievement gap) and social issues (diversity, inclusion) that impact the future of all children who attend a school in the district. He will contribute new energy and new ideas born from his commitment to educational equality.
I have been impressed with his unbiased approach to problem resolution, and his assertiveness which allows for a more productive and proactive approach which will lead to positive change and growth. His strong value system will drive his work as a member of the school board. His broader vision will not be compromised by immediate obligations or expediency. He will work on behalf of the future of all students.
I strongly believe that the Cape Henlopen school board will benefit from the participation of Mr. Jackson and thus meet its obligation to prepare all children for a productive and positive future.
