Joe Maggio Realty buys Connor Jacobsen Realty

For more than 20 years, Joe Maggio Realty has specialized in boutique home buying and rental services north of the Indian River Inlet.

Now, with the recent purchase of Connor Jacobsen Realty in Bethany Beach, Maggio is bringing his personalized approach south of the inlet.

This is one of the fastest growing markets in Delaware, said Maggio, owner and broker, and this is where the business wants to be.

The Connor Jacobsen Realty firm, the oldest real estate agency in Bethany Beach, has been a leading vacation rental company for many years, offering oceanfront and oceanside vacation rentals throughout Bethany, Ocean View, Middlesex Beach and Fenwick Island.

Maggio said former owner Marie Cahill approached him about buying the business after she had decided to retire. He said the Connor Jacobsen model of business was a natural fit to the one he’s cultivated over the years.

“Marie didn’t want to sell her company to a large, hands-off real estate firm,” Maggio said. “She didn’t want a franchise.”

Mike Moreland joined Maggio as an investor in the acquisition. After more than 30 years in the IT field, Moreland got his real estate license more than a year ago and joined the Maggio team. He said Maggio had helped him purchase property in the past and being a part of his team was something he wanted to do.

“The way he took care of me, there was no question in my mind, that I wanted to work in his office,” Moreland said.

Moreland said investing in the Bethany location allows him to put a little more skin in the game and leverage some of his IT skills to benefit the Maggio company. In the past, the Connor Jacobsen website allowed potential clients to see what rentals were available, but someone still had to pick up the phone to make the reservation. Online reservation services are already available, Moreland said, adding, “In today’s world, people expect that kind of service.”

Moreland said for purposes of name recognition and ease of use, the Connor Jacobsen website will continue to work through at least this upcoming rental season.

Also joining the Maggio team is Annette Marine, who will be the rental manager of the Bethany location. With more than 20 years of rental managing experience in the Bethany area, she has her own loyal clientele base too, Maggio said.
