John L. Draper Jr., eternally caring

John L. Draper Jr., 50, of Rehoboth Beach passed away at home Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, in the loving arms of his wife after a harrowing battle with cancer. 

Although born July 14, 1971, in Dover to John L. Draper Sr. and Phyllis (Ramsey) Draper-Watts, John spent most of his childhood in West Virginia amongst a large, close-knit family. In 11th grade, he moved back to Delaware with his brother and parents and began his career as a flooring contractor soon after graduation. 

Eternally caring and thoughtful, John found purpose in helping others with unparalleled strength and courage. Always exuding a positive attitude, he frequently made everyone laugh with his boisterous personality and was the light in his friends’ and family’s lives. He knew no strangers and had a passion for all animals great and small. 

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother, Timothy E. Draper. John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Angela (Riley) Draper; stepfather, Jerry Watts; son John L. Draper III; daughter Sydney (Draper) Escobar and her husband Mario Escobar; granddaughter Autumn Draper; granddog Gidget Escobar; nephew Cameron Jack Draper; niece Maryjane Draper; nephew Elijah Lecates; as well as many extended family members and friends. 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, at 4 p.m. A time of visitation for family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Interment will be private.
