John Sell named Sussex Tech teacher of the year

Sussex Technical School District has selected John Sell as its Teacher of the Year. Sell came to Sussex Tech in 2001 to teach English to ninth- and 10th-grade students.

Comments on Sell’s nomination form emphasized his superior leadership within the English Department. He leads his 11/12th English Language Arts Professional Learning Community teachers to align instruction to common core standards and to assessment. He has focused PLCs on making data-driven decisions. Furthermore, Sell has fully embraced technology as an instructional tool within the classroom, as well as voluntarily led professional development on Blackboard on two separate inservice days.

Sell has a master’s degree from Delaware State University. He enjoys tennis and golf, as well as playing guitar and singing in bands.

Sell, of Frederica, will represent Sussex Tech in the state Teacher of the Year competition.
