John W. Swithenbank IV, man of many talents

August 19, 2025

John W. Swithenbank IV, 53, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Born Jan. 14, 1972, John was the beloved son of Debby Miller and her husband Irvin Johnson, and John Swithenbank III and his wife Debbie. A man of many talents and great heart, John found joy in life’s simple pleasures, from crafting the perfect ice cream sundae to spending time outdoors kayaking and fishing in the hills of West Virginia. He also had a passion for woodworking and could often be found in his workshop, building with care and creativity.

John worked as an electrician, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and hands-on spirit. But above all else, he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, Caymen, Arianna, and Elly, who were the light of his life.

He is survived by his loving children, David Swithenbank and Elizabeth Swithenbank; his grandchildren, Caymen, Arianna and Elly Swithenbank; his devoted fiancée, Tracy Burgess; his sister, Vicky Pachuta and her husband Robert; and his stepbrothers, Joey and Eric Swithenbank. John also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will deeply miss his warm presence and kind heart.

A Celebration of John's Life will be held from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, at Indian River Volunteer Fire Co., 32628 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share in honoring his memory.
