Juanita Hopkins of Laurel inducted into honor society at Wilmington University

March 18, 2017

Wilmington University student Juanita O. Hopkins of Laurel is proud to announce she was inducted March 3 into Pi Gamma Mu international honor society. She was also inducted into Delta Epsilon Rho for having been placed on the dean’s list for three consecutive semesters.

As a single mother on welfare, Hopkins had put her dreams on hold. She chose to make her children a priority and dedicate her time to supporting and nurturing them. After working 16 years in the banking industry, she chose to return to school to change her career to fulfill a God-given talent and a lifelong desire for helping others. Hopkins resumed her studies and in 2014 received her associate’s degree in human services. Then she enrolled in the undergraduate program at Wilmington University where she will receive her bachelor's degree in behavioral science. Hopkins will be graduating with honors. Despite many trials, adversities and obstacles along the way, she has managed to maintain a grade range from 3.5 to 4.0.

Hopkins says she is blessed to have the love and support of her family, fellow classmates, colleagues and spiritual family. She thanks her parents, her heavenly father, and professors David Carey and Scott George among many others who encouraged her along the way. She is grateful to everyone who saw past her problems, encouraged her potential and reinforced her independence. She wants people to know dreams do come true and God answers all prayers. She encourages anyone, especially single mothers, to persevere, know anything is possible and always believe in themselves.
