Just in Thyme for jazz fest

Just in Thyme, located on Route 1 at Robinson Drive, between Rehoboth and Dewey Beaches, will feature a full slate of live entertainment for jazz festival weekend.  

The fun starts Friday, Oct. 16, when Just in Thyme will showcase the Michael Arenson Trio from 6 to 10 p.m. Professor Emeritus of Music Theory, Arenson taught classical and jazz harmony at the University of Delaware for 30 years.  He has performed as a professional jazz musician and commercial pianist for 58 years with a  variety of instrumentalists and vocalists in the Delaware Valley and beyond.  Local artists whom he has performed with include Sean Reilly, Libby McDowell, Jackie Brown, Vic England, Charlie Hannagan, Tim Laushey, Walt Wagner and Phil Berger.  In addition he’s performed with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Donald Byrd, The Diamonds, The Four Aces and the Benny Goodman Tribute Orchestra.

Arenson is joined by bassist Peter McCarthy and drummer John DiGiovanni.  McCarthy has perfumed at numerous venues, from Texas to New York, and studied composition and theory at Glassboro State College.  He has also studied privately with Gregg Powers, Joe Allegro, Bruce Kaminsky and Fred Weiss. McCarthy currently teaches at Mannington Music and privately at his residence.

DiGiovanni has performed in many venues in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Seattle, San Francisco, New York and his home town, Wilmington.

Just in Thyme will shift gears on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18, by welcoming back Alfie Moss and the Dexter Koonce Project for performances from 6 to 10 p.m. each night.

The audience will enjoy the music of Delaware Today’s Best of Jazz Vocalist Moss and Best of Jazz Band Dexter Koonce.  The band features Rick Tate Jr. on saxophone and Jimmy Crawford on percussion.  The group will offer two great evenings of jazz, pop and Caribbean sounds.  Be prepared to be fully entertained.
