Kennard W. Bennett, DuPont retiree

Mr. Kennard W. Bennett, 79, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Christiana Hospital in Newark.

A native Delawarean, Mr. Bennett was born in Wilmington July 21, 1932, son of the late Russell Bennett and Naomi Whitelock Bennett. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-54. In civilian life, he made his career with the DuPont Company, retiring from the Edgemoor site as a shift supervisor after 34 years of service.

Active in his community, Mr. Bennett was a dedicated member of the Holloway Terrace Volunteer Fire Company in New Castle for many years. He was also a member of American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro and of the Moose Lodge in Lewes.

In his youth, Mr. Bennett was a noted rollerskating champion and traveled all over the United States to compete in regional and national events.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Bennett; and a son, Brian Bennett. He is survived by his beloved fiancée of nine-and-a-half years, Barbara Sutton, who will miss him greatly; his son, Bruce Bennett and wife, Brenda, of Lewes; his grandchildren, Christopher Bennett (Jen), Shawna Foraker (Jordan), Rhianna Bennett (Leland), and Andrea Bennett (Luke); and his great-grandchildren, Jordan Foraker Jr., Alayna Foraker, Hannah Abel, and Lauren Bennett.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Holloway Terrace Volunteer Fire Company, 700 West Ave., New Castle. A reception will follow in the Jack Ryan Memorial Hall.
