Kudos to Schaeffer from new homeowner

March 26, 2021

I wanted to send a note to say what a wonderful job Mark G. Schaeffer, Third District, Sussex County Council, did for our community in Hawthorne.

In early December, my husband and I moved to Delaware from Maryland. I was planning for a smooth transition, and hoping to enjoy the holidays, until I was told by Comcast/Xfinity there was no internet or cable in this new section and could be several months before it could be done. What developer doesn’t plan ahead for a project of this size, and  not have it in the works, or completed before residents moved in. Well, I started calling Comcast on a weekly basis, spending a few hours a day just trying to get though to a live voice, only to be told each time, it could be another 45 days. After three months of being told it could be another month, it starts to take a toll on you especially when we are in a COVID pandemic, and you are trying to recuperate from the virus, you can’t keep in touch with family, or simply out of touch with what’s going on with the world because you can’t use your TV or internet.

One of my neighbors suggested that I try calling the county and see if they could put me in touch with someone.   I sent an email to Mr. Schaeffer, explaining what was going on with Comcast, and within a day Mr. Schaeffer was on the problem. Mr. Schaeffer texted me daily to keep me in the loop ... and within four or five days, Mr Schaeffer had this problem resolved. We now have cable/internet. We need more elected officials that work for their communities. If if hadn’t been for Mr. Schaeffer, we would still be waiting for cable/internet.
