Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation’s fifth annual Lace Up for Ag Literacy 5K Run/Walk is set for 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, at Hopkins Farm Creamery, 18186 Dairy Farm Road, Lewes. Registration opens at 8 a.m.
The event raises funds to support the foundation’s mission to build awareness about Delaware’s agricultural industry and promote the benefits of fresh, local food. It highlights local agriculture as participants follow the course around a local dairy farm.
“Agriculture touches every part of our lives, and this event is a fun, meaningful way to connect our community with the farms that feed us,” said Bill Powers, foundation chair. “By supporting ag literacy, we’re investing in the future of ag by ensuring that the next generation understands and values the importance of local farming.” Whether it’s planting seeds, making ice cream or engaging in other hands-on lessons, children love learning how food makes its way to their plates.
Hopkins Farm Creamery is a popular, family-friendly location situated in the heart of Green Acres Farm, a fourth-generation farming venture located at the intersection of Dairy Farm Road and Route 9 west of Lewes. This year, the race coincides with the new Hopkins Farm Fall Festival, held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., every Saturday and Sunday in October. Participants are encouraged to stay after the race to enjoy breakfast, fall-themed activities, apple cider and more.
