LaLa Land comes down
The party is finally over at LaLa Land in Rehoboth Beach.
Known for its bubbles and confetti and as a training ground for culinary and entrepreneurial talent, LaLa Land's demise began Nov. 26.
Once a fixture on the Rehoboth restaurant scene, LaLa has been closed for the better part of six years. The building has not had a tenant since 2011. It was recently purchased by investors Hugh and Tina McBride who have said the building was unsafe.
Originally a house, the building at 22 Wilmington Ave. was first converted into American Pie by Sydney Arzt and later as Side Street Café. After Arzt moved out, the building was taken over by a group that included former Go Fish Alison Blyth. The first chef was Robert Carney, who passed away in 2012; Carney was succeeded by David Keener, who later became a top catering chef at Ridgewells in Washington, D.C.
