Last place?!

September 3, 2021

I heard that Sports Illustrated has predicted that the Philadelphia Eagles will finish last in the division – even below the New York Giants – with a 3-14 record. This prediction is a bit extreme, so I will give my own thoughts and say that I believe the Giants will finish last because their offense has been terrible for a long time. I also think Daniel Jones is a mediocre quarterback, and their starting running back, Saquon Barkley from Penn State, unfortunately, always gets hurt. I hope the Eagles use that SI article as bulletin board motivation material in the locker room for the whole season. Seeing that every week should fire them up big time!

I’ve seen lots of different sports in this Paralympics, but unfortunately I have missed the wheelchair tennis so far. I have been very impressed with the cycling ability of all the athletes and the fact that some of the runners completed a marathon using prosthetic legs with no problem. I’ve also watched some wheelchair basketball. The one sport that gets a lot of coverage are the swimming events. It's all incredibly impressive and I really like how the athletes seem to have a strong connection to one another in their specific sport.

In basketball news, I heard Ben Simmons has told the Sixers that he doesn’t want to play for the team this year. I hope that the front office can find a team to trade him to in the near future so that we don’t have an Aaron Rodgers situation where the team waits until the last second to decide whether he’s going to be on the team to start the season. This might wishful thinking on my part.

In the golf world, there are two events this weekend worth following. The Solheim Cup is being played in Ohio at the Inverness Club from Saturday through Monday. This is the women's version of the Ryder Cup. The European team is defending their one-point win from the last competition three years ago. The tournament should be very competitive. Go USA! The second event is the PGA Tour Championship at East Lake golf course in Atlanta. It would take me til Sunday to explain the format of the tournament. So I will let you figure it out.

Thanks to the Dodgers sweeping the Braves and the Phillies sweeping the Nationals in this week’s respective three-game series, the Phillies are only 1.5 games out of the division lead and are now in the race for the second wild card too. The Phils play Miami this weekend. Go Phillies!

Labor Day weekend! Impossible! Where did the summer go?
