Latest episode of Lewes-focused podcast features local Dick Bryan

May 2, 2025

“I’m just a polished farm boy trying to help people get things, give things and find out where things need to go,” reflects Richard “Dick” Bryan in the most recent episode of “We in Lewes: The Podcast.”

Former farm boy notwithstanding, Bryan is an auctioneer, real estate entrepreneur, Lewes historian and inveterate collector who has a love of numbers and an endless knowledge of the town.

A true local, Bryan has been part of Lewes his entire life. “Talking with Dick,” said podcast host Kevin McGuiness, “is like taking a walk through history, whether it’s observing the first traffic light installed, discovering how to find Native American fire circles filled with arrowheads, or cheering during horse-drawn sleigh races on Lewes Beach.”

During the podcast episode, Bryan shares the lessons he learned at auctioneer school, and through selling real estate in Rehoboth and Lewes. He’s an avid collector of what he considers his “trinkets,” which include cars, tractors, maps, local memorabilia, 1-ton ballast stones, and even a horse-hitching post that used to be in the heart of Lewes’ downtown.

“You can’t know a place if you don’t understand its history,” Bryan said. He takes listeners back in time to show how a town where dogs once wandered free and farms were always within sight became the beautiful, garden-filled city that is Lewes today.
