League of Women Voters offers election info

April 25, 2023

Ahead of the Tuesday, May 9 school board elections, the League of Women Voters of Delaware offers the nonpartisan election resource VOTE411.org. This online one-stop shop for unbiased election information provides voters with simple, accessible tools to help them navigate the voting process. VOTE411 provides personalized candidate information, voter registration details, polling place locations and other helpful election information. The League of Women Voters of Delaware hopes VOTE411 will help reverse the historically poor turnout at these elections, which typically bring out only 10% of eligible voters.

School boards not only shape and monitor education policies, but their decisions influence property taxes, home values and government budgets, as well as address racial equity issues. During the COVID pandemic, school boards played an important role in addressing school safety issues.

The user-friendly Vote411.org website will help voters navigate these important races, which include 32 candidates across 11 school districts. Voters can see side-by-side comparisons of candidates’ biographies, visions for the future, and their positions on critical topics facing education today, including providing support for student mental health issues, community calls for removing books and programs, and attracting and retaining quality teachers.

These are issues that can have a profound impact on our system of education. Everyone has a stake in this election, because the future of democracy depends on how we educate our children and their children. It is crucial that voters in Delaware make their voices heard in this election and make an informed vote on election day.

Chair, VOTE411
