I travel on Minos Conaway Road at least once every two weeks and have noticed the progress on converting the old rail line to a paved hiker/biker trail. As a retired landscape architect, I am elated that this corridor has been put to such a healthy, positive new use.
However, I have noticed new signs telling car drivers to yield to the hikers and bikers. I am not a cyclist, but is it common practice for cars traveling at 35 mph to have to yield to cyclists crossing the road at 90 degrees?
Given how fast people on bikes could be pedaling and given the posted mph of Minos Conaway Road, is it wise to make cars yield?!
I sense an impending tragedy. Does anyone else feel the same?
