Lewes art installation dates set
This year’s Lewes temporary art installation will take place April 23-25 in George H.P. Smith Park, weather permitting.
The city’s Public Art Committee will be bringing in works by Baltimore artist Paul Daniel.
He will put up six different kinetic sculptures around the park, including one that will be anchored in Blockhouse Pond.
The pieces will turn in the wind and put on a show for people walking by.
Committee Chair Heidi Lowe confirmed the dates at the group’s April 3 meeting.
She said Daniel will give a talk about the artwork during a reception at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 25, at the Rollins Center.
Lowe said the committee has received a verbal commitment for a $12,000 grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts for the Daniel sculptures and programming to accompany the work.
The money will help pay for kids’ classes in George H.P. Smith Park this summer in collaboration with the Rehoboth Beach Museum.
Lowe said last year’s temporary sculpture, “Paviljoen,” is expected to be removed from Canalfront Park sometime in May.
