Anyone would agree that protecting our fragile ecosystem makes sense. Here in beautiful Lewes, the dunes along the bay beaches play a critical part in protecting our shore and the houses on the beach side against violent weather and seasonal storms. We need to care for them.
Over the years, I have seen boats, canoes, kayaks and chairs dragged into the dunes. This illegal practice breaks the beach grasses and compromises the dunes.
Would it be possible for the City of Lewes to install kayak and SUP racks near the beaches where paddlers and kayakers can store their boards and canoes safely without damaging the dunes? Many communities offer this service. One pays for the season's storage of their board or canoe to ensure secure storage and to compensate for the costs of installing and winterizing these racks.
